This is one of the rare occasions to see my reproduction pewter sabotiere completely as it is usually hidden in a coopered bucket of ice and salt. The fresh apricots are in the rye straw basket and the sieve ready in the pewter basin for the preparation of the receipt (recipe) for Apricot Ice Cream.

I have had my reproduction pewter sabotiere for quite a number of years and the maker of mine is now retired. With the tin that is now available for reproductions, I have found that the tin does not do well with the concentration of salt in the ice. There is documentation for both pewter and tin sabotieres. I know that there are some copper “historically inspired” sabotieres that have been made but I have no documentation for them. I have three original sabotieres that I have acquired and know several people who have also found and used those. My experience has been in England an original sabotiere was somewhat easier to find. Sorry that I am not of more assistance.
